THE LEGEND OF BHISHMA

In the earlier age  "HASTINAPURAM"was ruled by "Shantha".After the many years of ruling he left the thrown and made his son "DEVAVRATHA"as the new ruler of the hastinapuram and went on searching peace

In the mean shantha meets satyavathi,an fishing queen and found peace and happiness with her but she refuses to marry him 

king Devavratha went insearch of satyavathi,unable to see his father condition of menance and sadness and tried to convence the satyavathi but she refuses the proposal as the future of her of children wont be safe unless her children was the inherit to the thrown.this happens only when devavratha leaves throne and to be remained as unmarried.

In order to fullfill his father dreams devavratha,the son of ganga maatha, promised that he remains as bramhachari(remains un married).Later satyavathi was married to shantha Maharaja,and DEVAVRATHA remains as the gaurdian of thrown to :hastinapuram"

"DEVAVRATHA"was asked to a boon where he asked the power to DIE whenever the hastinapura throen is strong and justical&powerful.

Because of the promise made ,later devavratha is famous as "BHISHMA"

                               "ASHWATTHAMA" Birth and Life Prior to the War: Ashwatthama was the son of Dronacharya and Kripi. Drona did many years of severe penance to please Lord Shiva in order to obtain a son who possesses the same valiance as Lord Shiva. Born a Chiranjivi, Ashwatthama was born with a gem in his forehead which gives him power over all living beings lower than humans; it protected him from hunger, thirst, and fatigue. Though an expert in warfare, Dronacharya lived the simple life of a Brahmin, with little money or property. As a result, Ashwatthama had a difficult childhood, with his family unable to even afford milk.                      " IN GURUKULAM"  Story Drona once saw a bunch of kids standing near a well and looking into it. Drona inquired if everything was fine, for that the eldest of them said that their ball has fallen into the well. These kids were the princes of Hastinapur, the Kauravas and Pandavas. Drona here remarks that if you princes cannot save a ball, how would save the planet? Drona asks the kids to get grass blades, using one of these grass blades as spear Drona hits the ball and it sticks to it, then he throws another one, this one attaches itself to the previous grass. Thus he made a chain of grass blades and gently pulled the ball out. Impressed by this feat, Arjuna and other kids narrate this story to Bhishma, great grandfather of these kids.
